Networks continue to fumble. Cable continues to dominate. And new content from other mediums is on the rise and continues to stir a ruckus. Netflix opened a gaping whole in the land of television with House of Cards and more recently Hemlock Grove. Now it brings us Orange is the New Black based on the book of the same name by Piper Kerman. The creator of Weeds, Jenji Kohan, brings us this apparent gem of a drama-comedy (perhaps black comedy). Orange is the New Black premiered on Netflilx in June and was renewed for a second season in July. Orange is the New Black promises to be a flavourful insight into human emotion on the back splash of criminality, prison and femininity.
“The story of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a woman in her thirties who is sentenced to 15 months in prison after she is convicted of a decade old crime of transporting money for her drug dealing girlfriend (Laura Prepon).” (IMDb)
