Titanic: Blood and Steel (2012) — TV Miniseries Preview

2012 marked the 100 year anniversary of the Titanic tragedy and saw two big television series about it. ‘Titanic‘ is a four-part mini-series about different points of view on the voyage and sinking which aired in April to coincide with the anniversary. ‘Titanic: Blood and Steel‘ is a 12-part series about the grand construction of the RMS Titantic which aired in parts of Europe during April and North America this Fall.

Titanic: Blood and Steel is definitely a more fulfilling period and historical drama as Titanic is shorter and uses overlapping point-of-view to tell the story; more specifically each character’s story. And that is the great difference as Blood and Steel is a longer and broader story with more to invest into. Both have great similarities as they dwell into the socio-economics and other circumstances of the time. Blood and Steel depicts Titanic’s rich financeers (J.P Morgan), poor workers in a Belfast shipyard and Unionization, Ireland’s Protestant/Catholic conflicts and women’s suffrage. It also has quite the cast to boast including Chris Noth, Neve Campbell, Keven Zegers and so on.
